About Tanya
I'm Tanya Beechey, a person-centred counsellor providing neurodivergent-affirming counselling in Norwich, and a Registered Member of the BACP (membership number 00663004).
My own AuDHD diagnosis, alongside years working within CAMHS and NHS neurodevelopmental services, shapes how I work with neurodivergent adults and children — whether you have a diagnosis, are waiting for one, or are simply exploring whether autism or ADHD fits your experience. You don't need to justify that here.
Who I Help
ADULTS
Autistic, ADHD, or AuDHD adults navigating their experience. Whether you're exploring a diagnosis or have one, we work together to build a life that fits your brain.
Processing a recent diagnosis. This is a time of exploration and adjustment, and we provide a safe, non-clinical space to navigate these changes together.
LATE-DIAGNOSED
Young people navigating neurodivergence. We work together to understand how your brain works and build a life that fits your unique way of being.
YOUNG PEOPLE
Support for families with children over the age of 10. We provide a safe, non-clinical space to navigate the journey of neurodivergence together.

My Approach
My approach is person-centred at its core. You set the pace and the direction, not a fixed programme. Where it's useful, I draw on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to work through patterns of thought and behaviour that feel stuck, and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) to work with the self-criticism many neurodivergent adults carry after years of being told they were doing things "wrong."
Every part of how I work is neurodivergent-affirming and anti-oppressive. That means no masking required, no pathologising language, and no assumption that "typical" is the goal. Your brain isn't something to fix - it's something to understand, so you can build a life that actually fits it.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need an official diagnosis?
No. You don't need a diagnosis to work with me. Many clients are still exploring whether autism or ADHD fits their experience, and that exploration itself can be part of the work.
What does neurodivergent-affirming mean?
It means therapy that starts from the position that neurodivergence isn't a deficit to correct. Instead of pushing you toward 'typical' behaviour, the work is about understanding how your brain actually works and building a life that fits it.
What therapeutic approach do you use?
A person-centred approach, integrating Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) where they're useful — always led by what you need, not a fixed programme.
Do you offer a free consultation?
Yes — a free 20-minute initial consultation, so we can both check the fit before committing to ongoing sessions.
Are sessions in person or online?
Sessions are in person, at 39 Exchange Street, Norwich, NR2 1DP
How much does counselling cost?
£60 per session — £350 for a block of 6 sessions (recommended)
How long are sessions?
Sessions are 50 minutes, typically weekly, usually starting with an initial 6-session block before reviewing together how things are going.
Do you work with young people?
Yes — alongside adult clients, I work with young people navigating neurodivergence, aged 10 and above.
